When it comes to disibility lawyers, choosing your attorney for whatever reason, spend some time doing this and not just pick the first one that comes up in the list as research has indicated. This is even more important if you need a disability lawyer owing to the highly specialized field of law they are in.

First of all, the presence of lawyer specializing in disabilities gives you significantly more credibility; large companies are less likely to try and fool someone with this experience. The benefit of having a dedicated disability lawyer is that they know exactly what they are doing and what to look for; general practice attorneys probably would not be up to the task and because of this they could lose the case.

Most importantly, if you have already been denied benefits, you really do need some form of legal representation to assist you in the appeals processes. The easiest way to find a lawyer is to search on the internet where finding a suitable candidate will speed up the process considerably; feedback from previous clients they have represented are often available for everyone to see. Try and see if they have any recorded cases that are similar to your own and see what the outcome was; another option is to ask someone you know if they have any recommendations. Consider your recruitment of a suitable disability lawyer the same as choosing your physician; both of these professionals have your life in their hands!

Your search should eliminate lawyers with less than five years experience in disability case law; they will also worked within the state where you live for three of those so they are aware of any state laws that someone outside the state may be unaware of. Your disability lawyer needs to have experience with disability insurance and long term disability cases in addition to in depth knowledge of social security law; plus whose work is three quarters or more in this specific area. A representative that doesn't tell you what is going on or is not honest about your chances is not worth employing. The best thing at this initial stage is to interview about three attorneys which should be enough for you to choose one which you believe will be suitable.

Sometimes it is worth taking a second person, probably a friend, along to help you by taking notes and giving you support. Some attorneys will not charge for the initial free no-obligation initial consultation but you should come prepared with questions so that their time is not wasted.

It is not uncommon for a person to be a little afraid of carrying this out on their own so there is no reason why a good friend should not be present to provide support. Of course do not forget, usually initial consultations are not charged but an attorneys time is valuable so go to the meeting with your questions already prepared. Your disability lawyer should be someone who is honest and realistic about the process, the case and your chances; honesty between the two of you is paramount if the case is going to move forward but Whilst it may seem like a drawn out process, it is necessary if you want to find the right attorney so good luck.
